Should marijuana be legalized?

I'm writing an essay on the subject and I would like to know different people's views on this subjects to have a wider perspective.
Answer:
No decriminalized and regulated.
No.

For the thousandth time, no!
naww. i dont think so.
No there will be more negative stuff going on..
yes, and tax it
No, there are no benefits to its legalization.
Yes. Regulate it like alcohol, tax it and throw the book at anyone who sells it to children or drives while stoned.

People high on alcohol often get agressive while people high on marijuana just go to sleep or laugh a lot.

Think of the tax revenues and the empty jail cells.
No. There are better drugs out there that are safer and do the same thing as marijuana and are already regulated. We don't need it.
legalized or not, people will still grow it and smoke it.

i personally rather have a bunch stoners than a bunch of drunks, after all, more deaths are committed each year by alcohol than weed could ever do.

plus, weed keeps companies like dorritos and edy's in business
Yes

Do we really need to waste our public funds policing and imprisoning pot heads. These guys are less a threat than a drunk. I don't smoke myself, but am sick of our limited resources being wasted on pot smokers.

We can also raise tax revenue if legalized.
yes.

Cigarettes and alcohol kill many many people. Does Marijuana? Nope....not even if you look at the rates.

I have never heard of a single person who has died from smoking too much MJ, whether it be an overdose or a lifetime of smoking.
It should be de-criminalized.

The fact is, people have been dong it since it was banned back in the 1930's. It should still be considered an illegal substance, but a person shouldn't be jailed for selling it, possessing it, or using it. Just take it as contraband and send them on their merry way.
Yes.

For several reasons.

First - it is a naturally growing plant.

Second - if it were legalized, and growers were taxed - it could pay off the US defecit within years.

Third - going after a kid with a joint while tons of cocaine, heroin, crack, and meth are flowing all over this country - is just f**king stupid.

Legalize it, tax it, and release all the first-time non-violent offenders - you would take care fo the prison overcrowding problem, increase tax revenues, and free up money and manpower for law enforcement to spend on drug education, and elimination of the really harmful drugs.
no!
Yes, it does far less harm than tobacco, alcohol and many "legal" drugs.

What, we're afraid of a bunch of happy, stupid people running around all over the place?!

And, like the Native Americans and gambling on reservations, the franchise for sales should be given to the African American community as reparations. (Then let's see how many Whites come out of the woodwork claiming to be Black, eh?!)
Yes Yes Yes! No matter what the government does they cant control herbs .I know accountants,geniuses,technicia... A colledge students that smoke marijauna.Where I live under an ounce its a misdemeanor. You cant control so they may as well tax it.Theres alot of lies out there about how bad weed is but its all smoke and mirrors for the antidrug lobby. Its not a drug! Its an herb!Alcohol has killed many more people than maryjane ever has.I hope you get an A!
NO!! Marijuana should not be legalized.People who smoke it would move on to stronger drugs like METH.

To ALL the people that says that marijuana is safer than alcohol have not done any research on the affects it has on people.

It causes heart problems and memory problems etc....

I know 4 people who died from smoking pot.Marijuana was the cause of death on all 4 of them.
Yes it should be legalized, unfortunately it’s highly unlikely that it’ll ever be, because it would be hard to federally regulate and because it would have tremendously negative repercussions on the judicial system. It would mean that people imprisoned for selling marijuana would have to be legally pardoned and some of these people could (and probably would) be entitled to reparations from the courts.

It would also cause a total shift in the illegal drug market. Criminals who made their money from the selling of marijuana would now have to sell something else illegal because now what they’re selling isn’t illegal and therefore less risky for them to sell. As a result the price of their product would be subject to market availability and therefore cheaper in price. For the local drug dealer this would mean that in order for them to make up for their profit loss they’d have to resort to selling something else illegal (say cocaine or heroin). This in turn would mean that there’d be a greater demand on the illegal drug suppliers to produce more of another illegal drug (like heroin or cocaine) for the local dealer to sell.

Another thing I should note is that each illegal narcotic holds with it a level of risk that the drug dealer has to be willing to take in order to sell it. Marijuana has possibly the lowest risk level a drug dealer has to endure and therefore people who are traditionally “marijuana drug dealers” are less likely to be an endangerment to others as opposed to a dealer in something stronger like oxycontin, heroin or cocaine.

Also consider that the only real reason for legalizing marijuana is for it’s medicinal use the FDA, AMA, WHO and other organizations would have a difficult time regulating it because it very widely available already and because it can practically grow almost anywhere. It’s just that people don’t want to be caught growing it because if they’re caught they stand to lose more than their freedom, they stand to lose their property. Furthermore you need to remember that Marijuana is considered in most botanical circles to be basically a weed. That means that it’s very hearty. Since it can grow anywhere it would be impossible for pharmaceutical companies to make a profit from it and as a result it would also make it hard for doctors to profit from it either.
Of course it should, I've smoked pot for going on 15 years now and i don't have any problems like "memory loss", "heart problems"

As for the above fella knowing 4 people who died from marijuana lol how about all the people who died of cancer every year and driving while drunk, im pretty sure the number outweigh the 4 ppl you claim "died from marijuana"
NO!!!!

I don't think I could stand seeing kids walking around town with a joint hanging out of their mouth. In order to legalize it, you'd have to legalize cigarettes and I don't think that's ever going to happen.
Absolutely

1ST -- It is unconstitutional for the government to regulate what a person can do with their own body.

2ND -- CANNABIS/HEMP/MARIJUANA was made illegal based on lies, hysteria, racism, and greed.
